Summary/Abstract: The term self-directed learning means a type of learning that involves a new role of the participants included in the learning process. Learning a language on its own entails more freedom for students, but also greater responsibility for their own learning. The concept of autonomy can have a great relevance in the university context. At the Technical University of Cluj - Napoca, the conditions for implementing autonomous foreign languages learning are favorable, as students are motivated adults, aware of their needs and language goals and able to self-manage their learning.
