Summary/Abstract: This paper aims at pointing out some idiosyncrasies of Italian for specific purposes compared to general Italian. There are a lot of terms used to define our object of study, and these terms are not yet perceived as distinct. Having described the general characteristics of Italian for specific purposes, the second part concentrates on the specific traits of technical and scientific Italian, at all linguistic levels
