SDQ and subjective health in schoolchildren aged 11, 13 and 15 – І part

Summary/Abstract: This paper examines the administration and psychometric properties of the Self-report version of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ, Goldman, 1997) in school-aged children aged 11, 13 and 15, as well as the impact of the assessed emotional, behavioural and communicative difficulties on their subjective health. The sample consists of 4854 adolescents from a representative Bulgarian study, part of the international survey ”Health behaviour in school-aged children - HBSC” held under the auspices of WHO. Adolescents’ self-reported health, psychosomatic complaints and life satisfaction were analyzed and compared according to the prevalence of the reported difficulties. Emotional problems proved to be a significant risk factor for lower subjective health indicators.
