Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to analyze Strategic Technology Alliances (STA) in biopharmaceutical industry on the example of open innovation alliances, on the basis of recent data received from ASAP (Association of Strategic Alliance Professionals) as well as presented on international conferences ”ASAP Annual Global Alliance Summit 2012 – Mastering the Art and Science of Alliance” in Las Vegas and ”ASAP Annual Global Alliance Summit 2013 – Leadership. Performance. Value”, in Orlando. The author presents an example of open innovation alliance established between AsterZeneca Company and UK Medical Research Council (MRC) in order to advance the understanding of disease mechanisms and enable the development of new medicines. Moreover the different models of multiparty alliances as well as the main differences between traditional and open innovation alliances are presented.
