Summary/Abstract: The article concerns women’s politeness rights and duties. They are discussed on the basis of savoir-vivre textbooks published in Poland after the First and Second World War and after 1989. The subject of analysis is first of all the role of woman as a wife and as an employee. The paper focuses on social requirements given to women in three different periods of customs’ development.
