Summary/Abstract: The program of the religious architecture seems to be one of the very important promoters of the urban evolution. The church participates to organize the space of the cities, imposing various relations at the urban level and in the architectural features. The typology of the churches in the province of Banat in the last three centuries expressed different preferences. In the 18th century it was used the baroque shape and a variety of models during the following two centuries. In the same time, its intervention in the urban structure changed from an active element that determined the configuration of a town in the 18th century, to a support of the urban continuity in the 19th, to become an architectural accent in the last century. Different aspects concerning the influence of the church in the urban configuration may be detected in some examples which try to show the specific solutions applied in some important towns of the Banat.
