Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the methodological attitudes of two literary critics – Adomas akštas-Dambrauskas (1860–1938) and Kostas Korsakas-Radžvilas (1909–1986). Representing two different ideological positions, the conservative right and the progressive left, both of them demonstrated methodological consistency in their literary reviews. akštas pronounced the objective criteria of beauty, regarded by Radžvilas as an ideology of Lithuanian farmer class, which still hadn’t undergone the historical crisis. Radžvilas related the future of Lithuania with the rise of workers’ class. Despite the ideological disagreements, the two critics belong to the same methodological episteme based on the belief in the possibility of objective meaning in literature and the social efficiency of literary works. Even though most of their critical judgments witness the past, the lessons of methodological monism still remain relevant.
