Summary/Abstract: This article is an attempt a new breath to be given to the classical sociological questions: What is sociology supposed to be? How and why should it be done? What is the essential relationship between Modernity and the history of sociological thought? How does the modernizing process give rise to sociology as a form civic culture? All these problems are discussed through the prism of theoretical biography of the prominent American sociologist Peter Berger.
