Summary/Abstract: The author focuses his attention on the on-going crisis in Bulgarian sociology which is to be recognized by a variety of processes, demonstrating the hindered reproduction of national sociological community. The crisis is explained as natural historical phase of restructuring of the Bulgarian sociology, deriving from the large-slace social transformation in the 90s (more precisely, from the partition of sociological undertaking from direct involvement in the power structures of ruling cornmunist party in previous decades ). The national crisis coincides with the global sociological crisis of the late XX century which is predetermined by the fundamental value and epistemolo-gical contradictions of sociological thinking. In the second part of the paper the sociological analysis proves that the current sociological crisis gives no firm grounds for any pessimistic conclusions, because even the notorious Bulgarian sociological school of the communist decades — in its naivety and lack of any methodological sophistication, was both culturally valid as intellectual pattern of rapidly modernizing society and very important instrument, perpetuating the ideological, societal and scientific development in Bulgaria. Hence, even the proto-sociological forms of thinking happened to be indispensable factor of cultural innovation which the ultimate vocation of all sociological deeds is.
