Summary/Abstract: The main goal of the present article is to debate on the widely discussed problems of the mar-ginalization in social sciences and to try to outline the concept of marginalization in relation to its basic characteristis and its correlation with the elite and society. The marginalization of the elites turns out to be of particular significance for society due to their decisive influence upon the functioning of society through both their role for defining the basic social system parameters and their influence upon the value system of the citizens growing up incredibly as a result of media activity. The elite's marginalization is a characteristic peculiarly of each social revolution. But the fact, that the old symbols have been destroyed and nothing new and constructive has come in their place, has reflected strongly upon the postmodernization and the sustainable development practically led to opposite tendences. The specificity itself of the marginalization has been presented in the article. It is considered as a social phenomenon with objective and subjective indicatiors — a gradual change of the value system due to the change of the social status and estrangement from the process of production, on the on hand, and the lack of public prestige and social communications, on the other. The way in which the indiviual becomes of his stigmatizing as a marginal is of great importance for the process of marginalization. The possible alternatives of the Transition are examined as well as the results from the chosen alternative. The article searches for the answer to the question - why and how is the marginal status an obstacle before the social sustainable development.
