Summary/Abstract: This paper considers the innovatory (heuristic) thinking in the Empirical Sociological Investigations (ESI). In the first part the author substantiates the necessity of innovatory activity of the researchers in this area. The term "innovation" is treated in a broader sence. The author emphasizes first, that not only the naturally gifted, but also the "ordinary" can be innovators, and second, that everybody can learn to search and find more successfully new ideas and new, more efficient solutions to his own as well as the society's problems. In order to form and develop such abilities in the researchers, it is necessary to train them systematically with special approaches, methods and "instruments". In the second part of the paper the author examines the possibilities for search of multivari-ant solutions to the problems of ESI. She also presents a classification of the types of these problems. She promotes the idea that the researcher can search for new ideas during the entire process of learning and its course in the practice of ESI. The author points out some favourable sources of innovations in the field of Empirical Sociology. She advocates the concept thai it is wrong to relate the innovatory activity of the researchers mainly and even only to the big discoveries in the theory and methodology of LSI. It is necessary to pay more attention to the smaller and insignificant innovations which are closely related to the useful changes in the field.
