Summary/Abstract: The article’s main idea is that manipulations taking part in the process of collecting, interpreting and presenting empirical sociological, statistical, political and other information have always been damaging for the credibility and role of empirical investigations as well as for the development and establishment of democracy. In the process of globalization many of these risks are multiplied and their consequences go far beyond the usual scope – they become global and extremely dangerous for civilization. So far, independent control of civil society both nationally and globally, over the quality of information has been and still is insufficient. The global risks brought by abuse of information require activation of public control over the quality of information nationally, regionally and globally. As such, scientific research is needed on the methodology and methods for determining: the ways and means for manipulation and abuse of information, the incidence of their occurrence and their consequences as well as measures to limit them.
