Summary/Abstract: The opinions of the Czech critics about the creative affinities of Atanas Mihov in terms of his subject matters, creative performance, emotional content and suggestions is important to us, as these choices are now defining him as one of the most typical Bulgarian landscapists of the early twentieth century. Through the Czech critical thought, the paper brings to attention a significant to his painting but dissembled episode of Mihov’s life fraught with religious views. The article explicates the opinion of Czech reviewers about the contacts of Atanas Mihov with Czech painter Jaroslav Věšín, as well as with the Slavic artists of Lada Union (1904–1912). The paper brings to the fore the highlighted by the Czech reviewers energetic social activity of Mihov as well as his recognition by the royal family and by respected Bulgarian and foreign art institutions, placing his work of that period in the context of the presentation of Bulgarian landscape on the Czech cultural arena between the two world wars.
