Summary/Abstract: The present article discusses the semiotic notion of the instance of enunciation. Enunciation is viewed as a linguistic step which is logically presupposed by a terminative utterance. The term discourse is used to denote the result of the interaction betvveen the enunciator and enunciatee. This reading of Tolimas sapnas ("A Distant Dream"), a poem by Lithuanian poet Salomėja Nėris, highlights the semantic effects of the instance of enunciation and suggests that the transformative models of the narrative syntax are not sufficient to explain the meanings that emerge through enunciation. The instance of enunciation is defined not through the transformation of the subject's relation to the object of value, but through a continuous modulation - a process of becoming rather than interruption.
