Summary/Abstract: Starting from the seventies of the nineteenth century, many European countries gave up the popular over ten years free trade policies. The United Germany after the victorious war against France decided to change its trade policy. The agreement between industrialists and farmers known as the union of rye and iron increased tariff protection of German agricultural and industrial products. Although the widespread criticism of protectionist measures by many economists, the analysis of statistical data concerning the study of effects of protection policy including the dependence of economic growth in the conditions of the introduction of tariff protection can lead to interesting scientific conclusions. Thus, by using statistical data and assumptions of economic theory the author tries to evaluate the scientific problem.
