Group 42. Between Immanence and Transcendence. Semiotics of Fragment

Summary/Abstract: The current study deals with the situation of Czech literary culture in the period of crisis of existing avant-garde concepts and European modernism. The crisis was a foretoken of the rising existential generation. In his existential reflections, Jindřich Chalupecký, Group 42’s generational critic and spokesman, attempted to define the position of art in the after-modern period. Emphasis was made on the authentic experience of a metropolitan periphery which helped to define the new thematic starting point of the Group 42 artists.
