Summary/Abstract: The present study is aimed at analysing the concept of landscape in Jan Zahradníček’s work. Initially, the landscape carries specific features of melancholy, there are no appeals to perception (book of poetry titled “Pokušení smrti”). In the following works, the subject’s activity is rising up to the level of exaltation and mystical exctasy closely related to the fact that landscape is experienced as a sacral space (book titled “Jeřáby”). Emphasizing the landscape’s religious dimension, Zahradníček gradually moves towards the merits of baroque landscape (highlighting the patrons saint of Bohemia, baroque concept of nation). Gradual ideologization excludes the “destroyers” of the tradition mentioned (i.e. democrats, liberals, Protestants) from the perception of the landscape. During the Nacist German occupation of Bohemia and in the years following 1945 the space of landscape occupied with religious virtues disintegrates (books titled “La Saletta”, “Znamení moci”).
