Role of military units in social and economic development of communes according to questionnaire research

Summary/Abstract: Because of its social and economic role, an important partner for local government in policy development can be military units. Selected results and conclusions from the survey, carried in communes where military units are stationed, are presented in the paper. The goal of the study was to determine how the army was seen within the individual territorial units. Social and economic platform was analyzed, in particular such issues as: the impact of a military unit on the local labor market, the municipal budget or the sphere of interaction and cooperation between the military and municipal entities. The results of this study entitle to conclude that currently the impact on the development of military units of the municipality is visible to a greater extent on the social plane. The economic impact is explicitly seen only in municipalities where the army is the dominant employer, or significant property tax payer.
