Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study is to determine the technical efficiency of public universities and to develop a ranking of their effectiveness. The subject of the analysis were public universities subordinated to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Time range analysis covered the years 2001-2010. The study used the method of DEA (BCC model). For the analyzed model with two inputs and five outputs the technical efficiency of analyzed universities is high. The size of the average coefficient of technical efficiency in 2001-2010 for the BCC model ranged from 97.0 (2006) to 98.5% (2010). The highest positions in the ranking of the effectiveness for public universities in the period of 2001-2010 occupied University of Warsaw and Warsaw University of Technology. In each of the years these universities achieved the result of 100.0%. In the group of universities in the last positions, most of them achieved similar results of effectiveness to the group of effective universities (coefficient of performance of this group was between 90-99.9%). As a conclusion, these results suggest that universities require improvement in the operational management area.
