THE ROLE OF ETHNOMUSICOLOGY IN PRESERVING NATIONAL IDENTITY

Summary/Abstract: The role and function that played folk music in the lives of the people to establish a sense of patriotism and preservation of national identity, was very great and of special importance. Through, song, melody and folk dance is stored and transferred to our day a treasure of inestimable values of colossal scale, created centuries ago by our ancestors, those values that reflect the subtle mind and spirit of Albanian and its manly character. Evidence for this we find in many legendary and historical epic songs dedicated to our brave people of the nation. No one has preserved our real history of a nation and its outlook of life and death with such a dignity than the folk song accompanied with the sounds of lahuta and ciftelia (the lute and a two stringed instrument).
