Summary/Abstract: Sustainability of organisational development is an ambigous phenomenon, characterised by complexity, influence of numerous stakeholders, connections to other problems and unprecise terminology. These features locate sustainability among the so called “wicked problems”. Wicked problems are unsolvable, difficult to define, dynamically changing, complex and interconnected. For this reason attempts to solve them using traditional management techniques are unsuccesful. Wicked problems demand managers to become development designers. To deal with organisational sustainability, managers-designers need to think systemically, have empathy, be able to reason abductively and rapidly prototype.
