Summary/Abstract: The subject of the discussion of this publication are matters concerning public organizations operating in a relatively new type of society which is the information society. The main objective is to identify the characteristics of public organizations in the information society in relation to the subdiscipline of new public management. According to the organizations indicated the concept of this type should pursue their activities in accordance with the three ideas which have their source in the new institutional economics: the theory of transaction costs, public choice theory and the theory of stakeholders. Strategies associated with the development of information society in the countries, especially in the field of eGovernment, may favor the development of public organizations. Their main goal is to transform today’s public institutions that are caused by the implementation of modern information and communication technologies.
