Cosmopolitanism of Naguib Mahfuz in light translation

Summary/Abstract: Naguib Mahfuz, a Nobel Prize recipient for literature, a productive writer, an author of numerous novels, short stories and movie scripts, as well as fighter for the defense of the Arab literary language, is a subject of interest of researchers from points of various theories. In order to be adequately welcomed, as a heritor of a language that is insufficiently known to most readers, the condition was that a sufficient number of his works was available in foreign languages. Dedication for writing exclusively in the literary language has allowed him to become not only the top-of-the-list writer in Arab countries, but also the most read modern Arab writer in the world. In a persistent struggle for an appropriate position of the literary language one can see a contribution to the affirmation of the literary language equal to the contribution of foremost linguists, and the dedication of the Swedish Academy that the Nobel Prize for literature in 1988 went to Naguib Mahfuz, meant the affirmation of that language.
