The possibility of supporting the development of a community in the 2014-2020 Rural Development Programme

Summary/Abstract: Union funds are the most important financial instrument of EU regional policy, which undoubtedly influences the increased competitiveness of the local governmental units. In the new financial perspective for the years 2014-2020 there are a lot of possibilities of supporting the development of community in sector programs, but the article focused on a program dedicated to rural areas.The purpose of this article is to systematize the information about the possibility of obtaining external funds by the communes in the Rural Development Programme for the years 2014-2020, taking into account the principles of EU and national policy. To be able to benefit from the support of the EU the local authorities must implement strategic planning. The ability to use the EU Structural Funds is required at the management level of the community and should be taken as an economic stimulus for its development and opportunity in the rational management of public finances. EU support for local governmental units helps to activate economic potential and indirectly affects the growth of the competitiveness of the community.
