Summary/Abstract: Today 54 per cent of the world’s population lives in urban areas, a proportion that is expected to increase to 66 per cent by 2050. One of the most important elements of smart cities is Intelligent Transport System (ITS), which play a vital role in urban environments. ITS technologies help increase mobility, reduce congestion, improve road safety and cut greenhouse gas emissions. Cities in Poland are planning and implementing new intelligent transport solutions and some already have posted impressive benefits. The aim of this paper is to compare the degree of implementation and present the specifics of polish ITS and put a lot of emphasis on solutions in public transport. The article presents a case study of intelligent transport systems in provincial cities in Poland and the benefits of their implementation.
