Summary/Abstract: In this article is supported the thesis that the self-affirmation is supposed to obtain the status of a main theoretical construct in the personality psychology because the desire of self-affirmation is an universal and basic characteristic of the modern man. We’ve compared the classical ideas (of S. Freud, W. James, J. Dewey, A. Adler) which lay the foundations of this topic with two basic tendencies – the american and the russian. The author suggests two main directions in which the self-affirmation realizes: the subject’s desire of valuable acomplishments (succes and creations) and a desire of acknowledgement of these achievements by the others (by means of popularity, fame and society positions).
