Logistics in economic crisis and urgent crisis situations

Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the identification of different essence as well as the role of logistics in cyclical economic crisis circumstances versus others crisis situations, such as: natural or technical disasters and terrorist attacks. Even if strategic decisions and activities during the phase of prevention can reduce the risk and negative results of crisis situations, the sudden nature of the disasters should be managed mainly on the tactical and operational level. This is especially true in case of the humanitarian logistics focused on the reduction or prevention of starvation, illness or death, with cost and efficiency as the matters of secondary importance. Global financial crisis is a reason of the reductions of total consumption, investment and international trade turnover. It finally leads to the lower demand on the logistics services market. Due to pessimistic current and forecasting business outlook the possible anti- crisis logistics strategies on the transport, forwarding and logistics as well as production and trade markets are characterized.
