The article presents the issue of using external sources of financing the development of small and medium enterprises in Poland. A point of reference of the conducted analyses are the currently existing huge possibilities of using EU structural funding. What has been presented are the EU funds that can be used by SMEs. The EU business funding is non-repayable and interest-free and therefore very advantageous. Funding streams from the EU became available to a few thousand of firms and contributed to the development of the enterprises.
