Imperfections of the labor market in the context of the functioning of trade unions

Summary/Abstract: The activities of trade unions stir controversy. Although they are shrinking in virtually all European countries, the impact of trade unions on the socio-economic life should not be underestimated. The task of the article is to assess the role of trade unions in wage policy in enterprises. The goal is achieved on the basis of studies on the literature of the subject and the analysis of statistical data. A thesis, which is reviewed in the study, is that trade unions not only aspire to permanent wage increases, but also to maintain a constant size of trade unions by the concurrent pressures on the employment of all members of the association.
