Summary/Abstract: The thinkers of the late 19-th century devoted considerable attention to the study of hegemony in society. Among the most important names cited in this article are Marx and Gramsci. In contemporary sociological analyses, however, the topic of hegemony has not drawn the attention of researchers. Also, sociologists have forgotten the once passionate interest of their science in the study of social inequalities. Power and the nature of power are not among the topics of social science. Can “Globalization Theory” provide us access to social reality? Since the question of hegemony is not a significant topic today, does this mean subordination does not exist in reality? What is the meaning of the expressions “flexibility of the state apparatus and its subsystems (education and the flexibility of science)”? These are some of the questions addressed in the author’s reflections on contemporary society; the reference point is the society of the Republic of Macedonia, where the consequences of the market factor are clearly visible.
