Summary/Abstract: The proposed chapter continues the biographic study of an art historian, a museum worker, a pedagogue, an editor and a collector Piotr Evgenievich Kornilov (see the previous chapters in No. 2 (04) 2012, No. 1 (06) 2013, No. 1 (09) 2014 and No. 2 (13) 2015). The author describes his activity from May 1942 to March 1946, when besides being the Head of Graphic Arts Department of the Russian Museum he also worked as senior editor of the publishing company “Art” and was the head of the Visual Arts Department in the Department of Culture of the Leningrad city council executive committee. It was the time of extreme conditions for all Leningrad residents who fought and defended the city during Blockade. The selfless work, creative activity and public awareness campaign led by painters, museum and publishing workers as well as by the heads of cultural establishments is overviewed on the basis of published documentary materials and unpublished documents from Kornilov’s family archive. Such milestones as the breach of the Leningrad Blockade, lifting of the blockade and, finally, the victory of Soviet People in the Great Patriotic war in May 1945 determined destinies of hundreds of thousands people who closed the ranks and won the fight against the fascism. This material demonstrates the art representatives’ first steps and actions undertaken to revive the cultural processes in Leningrad in the last months of the war and the first year of peaceful life.
