Summary/Abstract: In the Russian manuscript ОЛДП F.215, which is a collection of homilies dating back to the early 15th с there is an anonymous translation into Slavonic of an excerpt from the first two precepts in the Epistle sent by Archbishop Dionysius of Alexandria to Bishop Basilides. This anonymous translation into Slavonic was made from the Greek version of the Epistle, as represented in the Patmos 173 manuscript from the second half of the 9th с The article compares the translation of the two precepts in Ephraim's Nomocanon from the 12th с to the translation in ОЛДП F.215 on the background of the Greek text from which they were made. This is one of the instances in which an archaic Slavonic translation has been preserved in a later copy. More importantly, the translation preserved in the 15th с copy was made from a Greek version which is older than the Greek original of the translation preserved in the 12th с copy. There is ample reason to suppose that the anonymous Slavonic translation of the excerpt from the Epistle was made during Methodius's life time who is believed to have translated the Nomocanon.
