The Question of the Original Text and Authorship of the “Eulogy for Cyril and Methodius”

Summary/Abstract: An attempt is made in the paper to apply a new method in studying an anonymous Old Bulgarian work. The Eulogy for Cyril and Methodius is subjected to a lexical and textological study. The whole vocabulary is covered and is compared both with the Old Bulgarian monuments of the 10th and 11th с. and with the language of the Old Bulgarian writers and Old Bulgarian translations, preserved in later copies. In the textological study are isolated textual passages and word combinations which have analogues or similarities in other Old Bulgarian texts. The Biblical quotations are also examined. The conclusions about the time of writing and the authorship are based on the results obtained from the study.
