Summary/Abstract: Since 2010 we have been observing an increase in the number of discount stores and shopping centers in the Polish cities and a decrease of growth rate of the number of super-and hypermarkets and traditional shops. Silesian Agglomeration is a special place in Poland where over 2.5 million people live. This paper aims to recognize residents‘ opinions about the functioning of modern trade formats in Bytom and Katowice. The pilot study among 200 clients of shopping centers and discount stores answered an important question about modern trade in the cities. The respondents positively evaluated the functioning of shopping centers and discount stores in Bytom and Katowice.
