Summary/Abstract: Dialect is a variant of a national spoken language and it plays a significant role in the process of identifying with homeland and little homeland. The inhabitants of the Pszczyna region speak Silesian dialect which has characteristic features. The case study demonstrates that dialect is an indicator of regional identity, but, at the same time, the range within which the dialect is used as a sole means of communication is diminishing.
