Summary/Abstract: The geopolitical situation in the Black Sea extended region is generated mainly by Russia’s interests and behaviour and thus the security environment becomes a complex one, due to the multitude of present frictions between Russia and other actors. While some former Soviet Union members in the region have good relations with Russia, other like Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia go through a prolonged state of tension. We add the Russian-Turkish crisis to the game and concoct a dangerous insecurity cocktail in the region, for the near future. The region is subject to national states, Russian, Turkish and western interests, amidst frozen conflicts, tensions and political crises. Russia remains the key actor for stability in the region.
