Summary/Abstract: This paper wants to bring into discussion a nominal locution frequently used in nowadays French language – baba cool. The comments: (1) indicate the etimology of the expression, (2) evoque the terms which are closely interrelated with the first component (baba): (a) in as far as the form is concerned (baba1 “patriarch”, baba2 “honourable denomination”, baba3 “baby”, baba4 “aged person”, baba5 “sex of the woman / backside region”, baba6 “Russian woman”, baba7 “astounded”, baba8 “pastry”) or (b) from a semantical point of view (beatnik, hippy), (3) précisent the primary significance of this expression and (4) describe some secondary significancies which seem to take shape in the present-day language.
