Summary/Abstract: The popularity of the Balanced Scorecard is still high, even though it has been nearly a quarter century after its development by Kaplan and Norton [1992]. In the private and public sectors in the world, there are many cases of the Balanced Scorecard implementation. Also in Poland, the Balanced Scorecard is used in many private enterprises and public sector entities. Tarnów, as the first local government unit in Poland, implemented the Balanced Scorecard. Subsequent implementations took place in Dobczyce, Łancut or Hrubieszów. Therefore, the main aim of this article is to present further cases of the Balanced Scorecard implementations in local government units (Inowrocław, Zduńska Wola and Więcbork) and to make a comparative analysis of these units. In this article, the following research methods were used: the literature research, the analysis of the general regulations (the Local Government Act), and the comparative analysis.
