Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to identify premises of improvement of the standardized quality management systems and to present possibilities of using benchmarking as a facultative instrument adapted to the needs of improvement of these systems, with the special attention paid to the stages and scope of benchmarking. The purpose determined the choice of research methods, such as: literature review and analysis of the ISO 9000 family of international standards for quality management. Literature review, analysis of the standards and experience in designing and implementing a quality management system in the company, showed that benchmarking is one of the key facultative instruments to support improvement of quality management systems.
