Summary/Abstract: Mountain areas are the subject of special concerns of EU cohesion policy due to development problems caused by specific physical features. Unfavourable climatic and soil conditions which characterize mountain areas are often compounded by structural difficulties. The purpose of this article is to show the effects of the impact of programs implemented under the cohesion policy in 2000-2006 and 2007-2013 on the development of the Rhône-Alpes region. These considerations have been preceded by a brief characterization of the region.
