Summary/Abstract: This study analyses changes in the effectiveness of an innovative triple-helix system consisting of three main players which are business sector, government (public) sector and higher education sector. Effectiveness was measured by the number of patents (submitted and received) depending on invested capital and employed in the sector of origin of the patents. The aim of the study was to compare the effectiveness of different countries (and sectors) and identify the main trends of development in the study area. Studies have shown that the highest level of efficiency innovation is characterized by the corporate sector and the results most favourable to the innovation system as a whole are achieved when a level of synergy between the sectors is fairly high. At the same time, given the current conditions the determination of the same level of efficiency postulated for different sectors is not possible.
