GREEN PUBLIC PROCUREMENT AS AN INSTRUMENT SUPPORTING SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT

Summary/Abstract: Green public procurements are one of the elements of a comprehensive approach in the pursuit of sustainable development. It is not required by law to use them, however, they can lead to many benefits for the customer, society. What is more, they can contribute to environmental protection. Among the positive effects of using green public procurements in transport it should be mentioned that, they e.g. improve air quality, counteract climate changes, reduce costs and promote innovative solutions. This applies above all to public transport, waste collection vehicles and services, which have a significant share in public procurement market. Using environmental clauses contracting authorities may contribute to solution to the local and global problems. In Poland, these clauses are not commonly used. However researches show that the society is gradually taking interest in these clauses, when it comes to their implementation. It concerns especially procurements in transport area.
