Summary/Abstract: In the academic year 1921 – 1922, Jewish students at the University of Jan Kazimierz in Lviv constituted a group of 2 226 people, which represented 46,6% of the total number of 4 773 students. In 1931, Jews constitiuted 2 215 people, it was 31,9% of the total number of 7 117 students. In the year 1937/38, there were 525 Jews in 5 064 students, it was about 11%. At the Technical University of Lviv number of students – Jews was stable. In the academic year 1921/22 there were 297, it was 13,8%, in 1930/31 – 361, it was 13,8%, and in 1937/38 – 310 people, it was 10,9%.Since 1918 there were strong national antagonisms among the students, it means between Poles, Jews and Ukrainians. They concerned mainly to engage in the struggle for the regaining of independence by Poland and the defence of its borders. From the beginning of the thirties of the twentieth century the conflicts intensified due to the economic crisis. Part of polish youth affiliated to the student association called All-Polish Youth began a series of action to reduce the number of places for Jewish students at the university, that was ‘numerus clausus’ – a limited number of admissions and ‘the ghetto benches’ – that was the designation of separate places in the lecture halls.There were organised brawls, fights and excesses at the university and politechnic. There were also a students riots in the streets.
