Summary/Abstract: In the years since 1919 until 1939, Lviv was the second-largest (Warsaw was the first) academic centre in Poland. The four institutions of tertiary education in Lviv were attended by more than ten thousand students, among whom there were Poles, Ukrainians, Jews, Armenians, Germans and Russians. The multi-national and multi-religious composition of the milieu of the students was the cause of numerous conflicts and excessive behaviours. A significant cause of numerous conflict-related events was constituted by the political attitudes of the students, ranging from communist views to the extreme right-wing ones. This paper characterizes the course and results of those conflicts, and also attempts to counteract them.
