Summary/Abstract: The article describes the history and combat operations of the Navy of Pontus in the reign of Mithridates VI Eupator. The author briefly describes the research of his predecessors and gives his assessment of the role of the Navy and the maritime factor in the history of the Ancient World, citing to the testimony of ancient authors. Notes the particular importance of this kind of troops in the Roman-Pontic war, provided the duration of the resistance of Pont Roman aggression. Considered separately, fighting pirates in the Mediterranean basin and their contacts with the king of Pontus. During the study, the author highlights the types of ships appearing in the works of ancient authors and epigraphic monuments, and gives them a brief description that allows to compare the technical capabilities of the Pontic and Roman fleets. Finally, an assessment of the war plans of the warring parties to the sea, their implementation and the reasons for the victory of the Roman fleet, have much less force.
