Summary/Abstract: The article considers the participation of pirates in the combat operations of the Pontic fleet directly under the leadership of Mithridates VI Eupator and his naval commanders. In the process of research, the author pays special attention to the fact that the direct assistance of pirates to the Pontic fleet in combat operations was insignificant in comparison with their independent actions against the Romans and had no significant effect on the outcome of the wars. Nevertheless, their military operations in defense of the cities of Apollonia and Sinop were quite effective and the pirates remained faithful to Mithridates until his son Machares took the side of the Romans.
