Summary/Abstract: The author presents the American biblical research and researchers ina broad context of American religion and religiousness. The fourth partof a series of articles in the field presents the so called North-Americanperiod (1981–1999). In this period of biblical scholarship the bestresearchers did not attend European universities, they obtained theirdegrees in the US. Moreover, European students came to the US forbiblical studies. They could learn new themes and new approaches.Many new areas were explored in biblical studies, such as the narrativeanalysis, literary critique, ideology critique, feminist hermeneutics andimaginative reconstruction. Postmodernism appeared and was morepowerful than in Europe. Some of the American scholars do not applytraditional perspectives in their research. It is a period of powerful andinspirational work in the USA.
