Telecommuting (Telework) as a Source of Problems to Realise the Functions of Work

Summary/Abstract: Telework has a few potential threats to its economic, social and developmental functions. After analysing the literature concerning this subject and the results of research into this sphere the author presents the following threats: lower remuneration, not taking into consideration the business expenses paid by the teleworker, threats to social relations and the risk of isolating teleworkers, a handicapped personal and professional development. Each of these threats is specific; and so is the preventive action in each case; with reference to the economic sphere the prevention is regulated by labour law, in the sphere of relations the threats are counteracted by employers. It is to be expected that telework, with its increasing popularity, will be requiring more and more attention paid to both the resulting threats and some efficient remedies.
