Summary/Abstract: The Internet today is considered the freest medium of expression, thus displaying a number of unprecedented advantages in public communication, but at the same time entailing considerable risks. In Romania, based on a precedent, judicial courts have decided that the social media represent public space. In reality, many Romanians (particularly teenagers) are unable to make a clear cut distinction between the public and the private spheres. Therefore, there have been and still are cases reflecting this confusion, both at the level of public personae and that of ordinary citizens. In the case of journalists, some mainstream media organizations have been confronted with the issue of establishing limits for the freedom of expression within the social media hubs belonging to professional journalists.
