Summary/Abstract: The present paper concentrates on an analysis of two different novels, belonging to different cultures and historical periods. Each is a classic British or Turkish novels, respectively Jane Eyre and Calıkuşu, and both share the same focus on female characters as the protagonists. Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre and Reşat Nuri Güntekin’s The Autobiography of a Turkish Girl (the English translation of Calıkuşu) will be depicted as half accommodating to and half challenging the gender-focused ideology of the abovementioned countries and cultures.
